Getting expertly produced high quality photographic prints from 35mm slides and negatives is becoming a popular request for us at Saturn Films 1969.
We have provided prints for as long as I can remember. The process is quite simple and I thought I would give you an overview in this blog post as more customers are asking for details.
Photographic prints can be used as framed pictures to hang on walls, to display on desks or sideboards, and of course for photo albums and Family Histories.
Firstly we scan the original image using one of our range of scanners. We can scan transparencies and negatives of most sizes, plus photos at up to A3. This scan provides us with a high resolution image to work with, these are archived on external media should we ever need to go back to them.
The next step is to restore the image, cleaning up the dust and scratches that have accumulated with time. We also endeavour to restore the colours as close to the original as we can using Lightroom and Photoshop.
We then adjust the image for printing, setting a suitable resolution and cropping for the size of the image itself. At this point there may be some artistic license applied. If a lot of the image is wasted on a featureless sky or foreground we can crop the picture to better frame the subject. As our image was already a high resolution the cropping rarely reduces the picture quality.
The edited, restored and cropped images are printed on professional equipment and photographic paper and reviewed.
Your photographs are then ready to post, together with a usb containing the digital images. The digital images are provided at two resolutions – one to view on a tv or desktop computer, the second as small low res pictures to view on a tablet or to share over the internet.
Frequent Questions:-
How long does this take ? Each project is different. The number and quality of the images are the main factors, we can provide an estimate before undertaking work.
What will it cost me ? Again this depends on the number and quality of the images and also the size of the prints required. We apply our standard scanning prices and then the printing is added in. There is a minimum £15 scanning charge for each project.
Can I request prints after I have seen the digital images on my TV or Computer ? YES ! Lots of customers come back to us asking for specific prints of their images 🙂
My photos are very special and I don’t want to post them, can I visit your shop and drop them by hand ? Yes indeed. Please call us on 07411119419 to arrange a date and time.
I live too far away to drop by, what post would we recommend ? We always recommend Royal Mail Special next day, or tracked signed for postage. We will email you once we receive your package.
