OK if you want a discussion on Brexit, or on our incumbent governing body this is not the place*. Nor is it the place for bad language or wildly extravagent claims for how good business is. For most of us these are challenging times.
At SF1969 we are trying to help by keeping prices down and hopefully getting the turnover to remain in business. Our prices are very competitive especially considering the quality we offer, each slide image is individually reviewed and edited with colour adjustments and dust and scratch reduction as standard.
This past few weeks we have had orders for scanning of 35mm slides that were taken during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Some were Kodak, some generic and some Agfa. Worryingly the deterioration of these images was quite marked with severe fading and colour loss. Later Fuji based photographs seem to have lasted a bit better. If this was just the odd order I was talking about I do not think there would be much cause for concern, the problem is that every order I am seeing from the 50’s and 60’s is showing the same age related deterioration. Some slides have been so dark I have surprised myself by being able to retrieve any image at all!
What I am saying to you is get your old slides and negatives scanned and preserved in a digital format before it is too late. Not just because of deterioration but remembering who is in the photographs and where and when they were taken. At SF1969 do preservation work for several clubs and societies (rowing, mountaineering, railway, rugby and historical groups) and we enjoy the knowledge that the work is for the benefit of people now and in the future.
For my part I keep a digital book. I have scanned images inserted into a ‘Word’ document and have a growing digital account including our old family photographs alongside our modern day stories which include latter day digital photos (*if anyone needs help doing this please ask and I will offer what assistance I can).
I know times are hard but lets preserve those valuable memories.
